My name is Ashlee Meaux, and I am a military spouse and my husband is active duty in the Air Force. When I met my husband in December of 2014, I had no idea what it meant to be with someone in the military. We were living in California, where I was born and raised, and we met through an online dating site. It was our second date that I realized my life would completely change if I married this guy (because yes we had already talked about getting married). I had no idea what was in store for us, but we dated, got engaged, and married all within a year.
Here we are almost six years after we met and we are living in Florida. We have had two big PCS’s together and as I suspected on that second date, our lives changed, a lot! Two kids, three states, almost five years of marriage, and several houses later, we are fully living that military life.
In my former life, I was a high school history teacher, for 11 years. I loved my job and I worked so hard for the many achievements I made. But there came a point, when the military told us we would be moving to Texas that I had to make a decision. I would either uproot our lives and move to Texas and become a Stay At Home Mommy to our daughter who was just about to turn one at the time, or I would try and find a teaching job in Texas.
I chose the former. Being a Stay At Home Mom was nothing I ever knew I wanted. I loved teaching and I loved the hustle and bustle of the workday. But I didn’t want to move to a brand new place where we knew no one and also find a job and leave my baby girl.
Just before I quit my teaching job I was introduced to a new makeup company, Maskcara Beauty. The selling point is that you can fit your whole face of makeup into one customized compact. Several sizes to choose from and fits a variety of budgets. The concept of simplifying my makeup routine was intriguing as a busy mama. I was sick of spending an obscene amount of time (and frankly money too) getting ready to just feel kind of pretty but never being super satisfied. So I tried the makeup and was hooked instantly. I got comments about my skin and makeup and that had never happened before. Even my husband took notice.
I was intrigued by this company and even more so by the founder, Cara Brook Killpack. She (and her husband) created this company from the ground up on their own. Cara has a mission of helping every woman feel their true beauty inside and out. She was sick of doing makeup for women, sending them off in the real world without feeling like they could accomplish these gorgeous makeup looks on their own. So she simplified it all. Enter Highlight And Contour, or as we call it HAC. Brighten your face with a lighter color, use a darker color to enhance the shadows and bam you have a 3D makeup effect, simple and quick. You really can do your whole face in under 10 minutes. So, after just wearing the makeup for two weeks, I dove in head first into the business and became a Maskcara Artist. I had NO sales experience, NO makeup experience, and NO clue what I was doing. Here I am three years later and I am in the top 2% of the company as a leader.
