My name is Ashley Weinert, I’m an Army wife with five kids, and I’m the creator of Counting Our Heroes Home! I started working on my business in May 2020 in the middle of my husband’s 13-month deployment. One day while my children and I were enjoying another day at home in the middle of a national pandemic, it dawned on me that deployment did not have to be difficult for other families in the same situation. I could use the information and knowledge that I had from my research and our experience to help others.

When I started researching ways to do this, I stumbled upon the subscription box concept. Maybe I could build a business that sends families all the tools that they need to be successful during deployment, spend quality time as a family and strengthen the bond between the child(ren) and their deployed parent. And so, our monthly deployment countdown box for military kids with a deployed parent was born, with the mission being to support military families on the home front.

We just shipped our first boxes out on August 24^th, but our subscribers are so excited. This is what they are saying:

This company is truly family owned. Each one of my family members takes ownership in their part. My kids help me unload product into my office, my husband (now that he is home) helps me to package the boxes, my kids wrote personalized notes to all the kids who were receiving the boxes and they came with to drop off the boxes at the post office. They are just as excited to spread joy to other military families as I am and it makes it that much easier to take on this venture, knowing that I have their full support behind me.

We are looking to expand outside of just the subscription products within the coming months, offering one-time products in our shop, including any unsold products from previous month’s boxes. This will allow for families to purchase more of an item that they enjoyed or multiple items if each child in their household would like their own. Also, for any non-subscriber they would be allowed to “try” out our products without being locked into a subscription.
